Over the course of my degree, I undertook research in both history and politics which I found to be interesting, informative, and engaging. For one piece of work, done as a second year essay, I contacted Bernard Ingham, who was press secretary to Margaret Thatcher during her time as Prime Minister. I also interviewed Lord Charles Powell, her private secretary and foreign affairs adviser. You can see a summary of this piece of work here.
Further, in my third year, I contacted Ingham again for a piece of work which sought to analyse the importance of western influences, such as Thatcher, US President Ronald Reagan, and Pope John Paul II, in the fall of the Polish communist regime. This piece of work is detailed here.
